Dom: good ol' google
Thought I would see what search results would come up if I typed in 'exercise for 5-10 year olds'.
Here's a discussion on Facebook, with someone asking about activities and teaching tips for this age group:
http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=20229012063&topic=14243
An article recommending activities for 5-12 year olds:
http://www.kidsexercise.co.uk/ActivityRecommendationsFor5To12YearOlds.html
This article is focusing on children in America, but it could still be applied to children in the UK:

Alex.....Ikea's play report
This play report helped Ikea to design new playful products for children. It also gives lots of figures, eg. what proportion of children where allowed to play more and how this effects their academic and creative learning.
This research report is quite interesting as it shows statistics from countries all around the world. (where there is an Ikea outlet)

Kate: Cbbc Bugbears
Looking throught the Cbbc website, this bit looks more about being healthy mind wise, as kids can share their thoughts with the bugbears. Like "I get picked on for being small" and "Its not my fault I dont know big words"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/bugbears/#/topicViewRequested?id=bodymind
This bit of the site you can see the different categories such as "Body and mind" "Makes me sad" "Bullying" :

The Jamie Oliver Nugget Failure USA
I mentioned this the other day I think. Kinda related.
Important: These are American Kids. He says that this experiment works on back home for scaring British Kids away from their nuggets. Apparently.
ALSO, I'm signed up for the 12oclock tutorial with Catherine on Monday.

Discover: My Notes
This two week project is focused on discovering the variables of the client, the message and the target audience.
We need to collect the research methods that are the most useful, then show how they have been applied to our variables in order to help us move forward with the project.
Research Methods
Got these notes from 'A Designer's Research Manual'
Formative Research: used to gain insight into an area of study or help define a question.
Examples :

Formative Research: used to gain insight into an area of study or help define a question.
Examples :
- literature reviews
- trend forecasting
- surveys
- questionnaires
- demographics
- user testing
- observational research
- video ethnography
- Ethnographic Research: A form of qualitative research that focuses on the link between human behaviours and culture.
- Emic investigations: definite cultural phenomena through the perspective of the community under study. (To get an emic understanding of a target group, individual interviews may be conducted)
- Etic investigations: define cultural phenomena through the perspective of participants that are not within the community under study (family members, friends etc)
- Ethnography can be used to find out more about target audiences, what they do, what they like, interests, how they interact with others

Ella....DISCOVER
while its still fresh in my head:
for next week we need to:
this has to be done by next thursday... we dont have to all do the same things we just share our research and research tools....on Monday I think we're gonna meet after tutorials-ish kates tutorial is at 1030 and mine is at 1 so anytime after that we can have a chat and see where were all at... we have to present as a group our group research..so we can just project our blog...that wold be easiest i reckon...then individually tell the group which path we are taking.
i will upload scans of my notes in a bit...can you guys do the same ....i have minimal notes on research methods......
for next week we need to:
- choose our political party
- choose the branch of health we want to target (healthy eating, excercise, walking etc)
- decide what niche (if any) of 5-10 year olds (could be girls or boys for example)

Alex says....lets think like kids
The world to a child is scary and supernatural in the way monsters lurk under the bed. Imagine preparing yourself to face this world, I would create all sorts of weapons or monster repellent out of anything I could find!
by *MacDoninri
ella...
I was thinking about our target audience and the fact that there is a huge difference between the skills of a 5 year old and that of a 10 year old... like reading writing etc... on thing, that is universal to all children (and everyone!) is play... they all have the ability to play ...maybe we could look at this avenue to target all of the target audience!
found this video about a company that encourages play in our target audience age bracket....alot of the things they talk about in it apply to graphic design

DISCOVER. Political > kids 5-10 > Become Healthier
My first thought was children working in sweat shops. This subject matter is quite serious and has been discussed before; I would rather discover something funny and maybe a bit silly.
On Monday I told Kate and Dom what if we could make an army of 10 year old Bankys! That idea has its faults but Im thinking along those lines. What does everyone else think?...
